This post is also available in german/deutsch.Classic scones recipe – a simple and quick pastry that is most popular at tea time or for brunch. We love it most with jam and clotted cream.

Clotted cream

Clotted Cream is a kind of thick cream made from cow’s milk. If you don’t get the cream, maybe make it yourself or use mascarpone or cream cheese. Also you can use plant based option.

Classic scones recipe

375 g all purpose flour
pinch of salt
3 small tsp of baking powder
40 g of sugar
130 g butter, softened or margarine
200-220 ml milk of your choice

Preheat the oven to 180 ° C. Mix the flour, salt, baking powder and sugar well in a bowl. Add the butter and knead briefly with your hands, then work in the milk. Add more milk if necessary. The dough should not be too dry and stick easily.

Put some flour on a working surface and roll out the dough 1.5-2 cm thick. Cut out 24 scones with a glass or other round cookie cutter (ø 6cm).
Place the scones on a baking sheet, lined with baking paper and bake for 10-12 minutes.
Scones shouldn’t get too dark.

Enjoy lukewarm with jam and clotted cream.
