A few weeks ago I’ve the pleasure to travel to The Barilla Company in Parma, Italy. I was super excited and full of joy to learn more about this big company and have a look behind the process. I had no idea what to expect, but it was amazing!
I’m a early bird so I was really enjoying for the 1 day in Parma. Because we have visited the basil fields at 7am. I was ready at 6. – breakfast: 1 cup of coffee and one croissant –
The basil fields are near at Parma and the smell was so so amazing! Have you ever been stand in a fresh basil fields? It was such a great experience and I don’t want to miss it.
We have seen the basil slicing machine and the depot where people put the freshly cut basil leaves in large boxes. It’s amazing and very interesting. From the fields directly in the jars within 24 hours!
And so we followed a big container with basil leaves to the Barilla company. To see where they make the delish sauces!
Every time was an amazing smell in the air. We got yellow covers for clothes, cleaned our shoes and hands with air and then we entered the production area. We followed the basil, which was steamed and cleaned, went through all the machines. The basil was mixed with onion, garlic and tomato to produce a delicious sauce that was poured into jars.
Barilla is a old family business which evolved within the last 140 years into something special. Everything began in 1877 with Pietro Barilla as he opened a bread and pasta shop in Parma.
